The above video features Parrot's AR.Drone, a quadricopter that can be controlled by iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch. It even has two cameras that can broadcast the images back to the iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch. AR.Drone generates its own Wi-Fi network (no need for an Internet connection nor a router) at which you simply connect an iPod touch or iPhone. Once the AR.FreeFlight application has been downloaded from the APP Store, the iPod touch/iPhone turns into a piloting station. Touch the take-off button on the screen of the iPod touch/iPhone and the Parrot AR.Drone starts its engine, takes-off, stabilizes a few feet from the ground and waits for the pilots instructions. Parrot AR.Drone moves forward, back or sidewise depending on the inclinations of the iPod touch/iPhone. Another command button on the right of the iPod touch/iPhone screen enables the pilot to make the AR.Drone rise, go down or rotate. Best Flying Toy to Date! An Eye in the Sky for the masses
Best Flying Toy, period. Nothing even comes close. Similar Quad Copters have been around for years and are very costly. Parrot has done an excellent job of mass producing a DURABLE Quad copter with 2 camera's for a fraction of the cost of a similar hobby store system. Able to fly it via camera out of direct line of sight without issues, indoors and out, even in a wooded area. It takes practice but it is a reality.
The AR Drone is fast, easy to fly and has decent lifting power. I have mounted a Plush Yoda and USB missile launcher successfully. It's a developers dream and very suitable for modifications. The quality, Durability and Fun factor are well above expectations. Well done, Parrot!
